“The Italian association “Isolina e le altre”, had proposed me to realize a photographic project to exhibit, on the occasion of the annual event against violence against women, in Cavalese in the province of Trento, Italy.
I took a Barbie doll and tried to represent 5 of the worst violence suffered by women: stoning, prostitution, sexual assault, rape with murder and acidification.
The purpose was to show the other side of a coin that, through the most long-lived doll in history, gives princely dreams to little girls, but beware: I did not want to steal those dreams, what drove me was the creation of a psychological antibody that could protect women from the illusion of a dream that sometimes turns into a nightmare. An antibody that, I continue to hope, can be help.”
